Eight centuries ago, the call of Jesus to a young man in a nondescript Italian town of Assisi was unmistakably clear. The young man was rich. He was handsome.
He had friends. Apparently he seemed to lack nothing, until the call came. He couldn’t ignore that irresistible call: Lord, What do you want me to do? “FRANCIS,
BUILD MY CHURCH” Francis of Assisi had found his vocation. He never looked back. He set out on a programme of building the Church. Perhaps, no saint has influenced the
church and the world as profoundly as St. Francis with his message of peace, Universal Harmony, Brotherhood and sisterhood of all God’s creatures.
After five centuries, the spiritual treasure of Assisi continues to permeate the Church. St. Francis continues to be one of the most loved saints.
At the down of this century, the spirituality of St. Francis flowered in another young man. His name was Paulus Moritz. Paulus born in Germany of Jewish parents embraced
the Catholic Faith while a student at the University of Bonn. In 1895, he came to India as a missionary and worked for nearly five decades in several parts of Northern India.
Like his mentor Saint Francis of Assisi, Brother Paulus Moritz set out to build the Church, to call people to follow Jesus. In 1901 the Congregation of the Missionary Brothers
of Saint Francis of Assisi (CMSF), popularly known as Franciscan Missionary Brothers, was founded. Today in India alone, the Congregation has over 500 Brothers and work in more than
80 Centres. The Franciscan Missionary Brothers work in different parts of the world, for the establishment of God’s Kingdom. They are Missionaries committed to God in the service
of His people, Educators who bring the light of learning and Agents of integral development. They are Witnesses of God’s Kingdom of Justice, Peace and Reconciliation. The Lord calls
you too, to come and join the Congregation of the Missionary Brothers of Saint Francis of Assisi (CMSF); to say “Yes” to His invitation to build the Church.
